Okay... So Red Hat has rolled out a Desktop edition after SuSE did it about a year ago!! Well there u go I guess now theres no full stops for GNU/Linux on the business sector!! Learn more here!! And read the official press release here!! My fingers are really itching to switch all the fonts for this page to GNU/Linux specific fonts!! Maybe would do that some time, the next time I tweak the template!! Red Hat is the leading distributor of GNU/Linux in North America and South Asia as compared to SuSE which is the leader in Europe!! But they are all in the Enterprize segment!! And I guess Mandrake could never take over them!! Then again I'm a fan of Mandrake always!! So what would be really cool is, if Mandrake releases an edition for standalone desktop users (Home Users)!! Then I guess it could really give Microsoft and Mr Billy a run for its money!! Cus if Mandrake seriously focusses to switch its business around, to target the home users, and if it can also back it up with effecient media publicity... then feature as well as graphical interface wise Mandrake is leagues ahead of Windoze XP or Media Center!! What Mandrake also needs to do is roll out good books for the likes of Home Users, so that they could learn the tit bits that is needed to switch from something as stupid as Windoze to something thats quite intellegent as GNU/Linux!!

It has now been confirmed the release titled, "Inside Pink Floyd - A
Critical Review 1967 - 1996", will be a 2 disc DVD set complete with
accompanying book.
It is scheduled for release June 14th, 2004 on the Classic Rock label as
part of their "Critical Review" series, which has already covered artists
such as Genesis, Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy.

Before I get started I'd like to quote p1ut0 here... ...well, microsoft and nokia really compete in who packs the greatest shit in the best package!! all shoshe no real thing!...
 So getting back to my regular shits!! I'm running an evaluation copy of SUN's Star Office 7! I can use it till 3 months for free, and then if I would like to continue I better buy the stuff or register it!! But I think they are generous enough as in... who would let u use (all features inclusive) a commercial software for 3 months trial period for free? I bought this book called 'Using Star Office 7.0' and the software came with that!! A single CD has got the installer for GNU/Linux, Windows and Solaris!
The first look into it! The interface is almost the same as OpenOffice.org 1.1! The toolbar icons are colored! So kinda looks eye-candy!! And its got lots of templates, that're always missing from OpenOffice.org! It also loads into the memory a bit faster! Other than that I, as an everyday general user cant seem to find any other difference!! So maybe after the 3 months eval period, Ima switch on back to my OpenOffice.org!! And maybe by then they would have released the much awaited version 2!!
See if u are used to Microsoft Office, the only difference it has with OpenOffice.org would be that MS Office loads itself into the memory rather fast! When OpenOffice.org takes a whole lot of time!! But thats becuz all the modules of MS Office are preloaded in the memory when u turn on the computer! Thats not the case with OpenOffice.org, and thus it takes some time to load itself!
Its like when u click on Internet Explorer (considering u're using Windoze), it would load up instantaneously compared to other web browsers like Mozilla or Netscape! Thats cuz Internet Explorer is also the file manager of Windoze, and u have the explorer.exe always running in the memory! While Netscape and Mozilla have to start up from scratch! Even tho there is a quick start, but that only makes a minute difference!
Anyway according to the project leader of OpenOffice.org, they are gonna be working on increasing the speed with which OpenOffice.org loads, and the general speed of the Office Suite aswell!! So that's the reason I myself am awaiting for their version 2!!
People who give us calls to troubleshoot their ISP, or the online software that they use, most of them are basically computer illiterates!! So many a time if u ask them to look for the stuff in the programs menu (All Programs in XP), they sometimes have a hard time finding it out! So at that point u ask the person to read out all the stuffs listed in the programs menu!
But thats not their fault I guess! If u're given a toll free number to call for anything, how are u supposed to learn for urself? The company is spoon feeding you, cuz they want you to always remain dependent on them! That way they have you appreciate the quality of service the company provides, which ticks in the customer's mind when they wanna switch the service! And when they do, they most of the times return back, cuz they probably dont get the 24/7 free tech support on a toll free number whenever they face any problem!
Anyway I got nothing to do with that!! Why I brought it up was, during one of these times asking the lady to read out what all stuffs she has inside the programs' menu, she happen to read out OpenOffice.org! And there wasn't a Microsoft Office in there!! Pretty cool huh? When u're using a Windoze XP O/S and u have an Open Source Office Suite, and MS Office is some how missing!!
Wonder what she'll do when she'd face some difficulty with OpenOffice.org suite. Probably gonna give us a call aswell... I've had people calling us cuz they need help with their printers, or scanners or general Windoze problems, on a regular basis!! And u kno ironically it would take me less time to have them install the drivers, rather than explaining them how I dont have the expertise to handle that peace of software/hardware being a technician for the ISP! And they would be so depressed!! lol!! Thats funny how they're used to so much of spoon feeding!!!
Oh and the best part, many time when u fix their problem with the ISP or the software, or go out of the scope to teach them some Windoze settings or tricks, and they would be so happy n all that! And they would start asking questions like ... how many years did I have to go to college to learn all this!! And we fake something like yea 4 years!! lol!! You get a training for a month, on top of whatever basic knowledge u already possessed! And thats all!! I mean it doesn't take a lot to kno Windows (or any Closed Source software for that matter), when u face some problem with it, all u can do is check certain settings and if they dont work, go ahead n' uninstall and reinstall!!! Best solution!!
See why some of us dismiss Closed Source software? If that would have been open source u at least had a chance, cuz u could have altered the source code to fix it, whatever might have gone wrong or corrupted!!
One of this other times this guy gives us a call to back up some emails... and the way that needed to be done is rather stupid, but thats the only solution!! (If someone gives the solution, I would be so fuckin pissed!) But hey I dont have a choice... I didnt write the software, so we have only the stupid solution!! Now most of the people who face this kinda trouble, probably think that was a fault at their own end, and are rather happy when we give them the awfully stupid but only solution!! This guy was something like... “u're kidding me, right? Oh my god!! See only reason I had to call, was cuz ur software is closed source! And my wife somehow loves ur ISP!! Thank god I dont use Windows or ur ISP! God Bless Open Source!!”... and I was like... “Whoa I got a open source freak on the line? Today is my lucky day!”... and I find out he's working on some project himself aswell ... uses the Fedora Core on his laptop! And he also gave me the url for his project website... and i wrote it down! But I might have taken it down incorrectly cuz it never worked! This is the only time I spoke with an open source geek!!
Bal, who used to work for this other ISP, said once a while some people did called in to cancel, cuz they thought since it's Netscape it should work on Linux! But when Bal had to say the dialer still dont support the Linux Platform, the customer was like... to hell with it! Yay, that should be the attitude!! Well Netscape offers a dial up unlimited service for $9.95 for a month!! Awfully cheap huh? And that's why its so tempting!
Anyway its hilarious to work in a call center!! I wonder why they exist!! Oh yea, Bal is a comp geek basically, but he never used to use Linux. Now I gave him the Knoppix 3.3 Live bootable CD. And the other day he calls me up to say! “Shit! This Knoppix thing is HiFi man! It recognizes everything from my Win partitions, and opens those up with the right sort of applications aswell!! Fuck it even played all my porn videos, whatever format I had it stored in!! And the best think like u said, I didnt have to install it!!”
Well Knoppix is a live bootable Linux Operating System, which u can run right from the CD, without installing in on yer computer!! All u gotta do it pop in the cd... boot the comp from the cd-rom, and it boots into the Knoppix Linux O/S in a matter of seconds! Actually it loads the file systems into the RAM, so u dont need a hard drive to run it!

Somewhere along the line, Sun used to be one of front runners when it came to bashing any technology created (read - stolen) by Microsoft! Scott McNealy, chairman and CEO, Sun Microsystems, has spent the better part of the last 15 years battling Microsoft in the marketplace and the courtrooms.
Now what most of us would have thought would be the silliest April Fool's joke ever has turned out to be a reality! On April 02, 2004, Sun announced the settlement with Microsoft about how in future they would like to co-exist, and share and implement each others IP (Intellectual Property)! Ironic huh?
Get the drift, why I said what could have been the silliest April Fool's joke has turned out to be a reality? Well if u dont, lets just quote Mr. McNealy from the past...

Last I was on a Windows XP, which would be latest and the most cutting edge product from the Microsoft Corp., I think I still had to rely greatly on the 'control+alt+delete'.
Well lets just hear what Mr. McNealy has had termed some of the popular Microsoft products and strategies, in the past...
Microsoft Outlook = 'Look Out, the virus prone petri dish of choice on the Internet'.
Windows ME = 'Windows More Errors'
Microsoft's Internet Information Server = 'The Corvair of Web Servers, unsafe at any speed.'
Active Directory = 'Captive Directory', at the center of Microsoft's 'hair ball', of inextricable software products.

Well analysts are saying Linux (and OSS, i.e. Open Source Software), for which Sun is (read: was) one of the leading prophets and investors (besides IBM, Novell and Oracle and many others), is somehow turning out as much as a threat to Sun's own flavor of Unix, i.e. Solaris, as it is to Microsoft's Windows. And lately Solaris, which used to be the market leader when it came to Unix Operating Systems, is also loosing its ground to IBM's flavor of the Unix, i.e. AIX.
Plus when Linux is also taking away a substantial share of the Server market, due to aggressive strategies applied by IBM and loads of other Hardware vendors, it perhaps is doing Sun no good!
But then again, Sun still continues to have a huge success selling Linux-based Java Desktop System (JDS), which is basically GNOME (a popular GNU/Linux desktop interface), with some added changes and inclusion of some of its closed source software technology, running on top of Linux.
If u ask me Sun Mircosystems, or to be precise the decision makers of the organization, are pretty much clueless!! First they are loosing grounds in the Operating Systems market for their Solaris to Linux, so it has became as much a threat to them as Microsoft's Windows! But it also has been having a huge success ever since it introduced its JDS running on top of Linux in the market! So Sun also wont be backing out its support to Open Source Software any time soon aswell!
Well it all comes down to the show-me-the-money, like usual! Cause now Sun says it would be selling Windows as an alternative on its hardware architecture aswell! And the reason would be Microsoft's better technology or would it be its popularity? Show me the money! Any doubt guys? Her sister took part in a classical piano competition and stood third! Isnt that the coolest? Her sister is 2 years younger to her... and her brother is this little genius, who's 8 years old and keeps on drawing all the artwork from The Wall! Yes that would be Pink Floyd's The Wall!! And he cant get enough of the Iron Man... yup that Black Sabbath number!!
I remember I never actually liked Black Sabbath to begin with!! I mean I thought they were cool n all... except for Ozzy's voice!! I thought that was rather annoying! And then I used to watch this series on TV, called Grounded For Life... Which has these two complete freaks of parents! And this one time the dad buys a Les Paul!
And the next thing u kno he's playing it to his youngest son's friends and this one kid askes him to play an Eminem tune!! lol... I remember he was like ...huh? (lol... as if the hip hop starts kno any shit about guitar) so the dad was like... ok kids listen to this and he started playing the intro for Iron Man... U kno that riff?
And I was like... what tune is this again? And then after a while I see I have that song in my puter... so I play it and I get hooked into Black Sabbath! Funny how her brother would also listen to the same Sabbath tune over and over again, to begin with!!
Anyway she always gets drunk and does all sorts of shitty thingys, but would insist that she was in control of everything... only she gets knocked out, somehow...!! Somehow? Lol! As if anyone would buy that! Dont u wanna love her?
Music of the 60s was so cool!! Like there warent too much instruments... and so some space to breathe in. And there's always these 2 guitarists playing the blues! Thats why I like The Velvet Underground! Apart from that everyone loves Lau Reed!! I remember when she first found my first blog in rediff... one of her first comments she left for me there was ... Dude listen to Canned Heat, they are great! And I was like ...who are they?
Funny how I liked their performance in my Woodstock Video... I just didnt kno who they were!! Canned Heat is an awesome Bluesy band from the 60s!! And this awefully fat guy is the lead singer!! During the performance one of the fans climbs upstage and borrows a Marlboro from the vocalist and hugs him and all... And it makes u wonder how down to earth the musicians of the 60s were!! They were one of us!!
And there are these 2 awesome Blues guitarists in CH aswell! One plays a Les Paul and he dont use a plectrum., and another one plays a strat, and u wonder who u like better!! And this awesome Bassist who's a complete gone case, if u kno what I mean... not that he's high on dope... but he's high on da music.... and completely out of control!! I love him!! He plays it soo cool!! Can I ever get enough of a Fender Jazz Bass? I wish I had one of those!!
